After the court ruled that the constituency returning officers will be mandated to announce presidential results at the constituency level and can’t be altered by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) at the national level, a section of politicians has supported the verdict.
Kimilili parliamentary aspirant on an independent ticket engineer John Wenyaa has applauded the ruling saying the move will ensure transparency and accountability as the agents of the various parties at the grassroots level will have fully verified results.
He called upon the IEBC and the Jubilee party to consider not appealing the ruling saying it will further complicate issues and instead focus more on how to convince Kenyans to vote for them as it is only through votes that they will be able to win an election.
Wenyaa also cautioned residents of Kimilili against electing leaders who have questionable track records saying if elected they’ll use the five-year term to loot public resources.
His sentiments were echoed by Richard Masinde Sibilibili an FPK candidate who applauded the appeals court for the ruling saying it will save time and ensure results are relayed quicker.
He added that the risk of the results being altered is high and the ruling is the best so far as it has ensured there is no vacuum for such malpractices.
Sibilibili, however, being in a party affiliated to the NASA coalition challenged the leaders in the mainstream parties of the coalition not to sideline other parties in the coalition during campaign rallies saying the other parties have supporters who will vote for the coalition leaders.
He said it is unfortunate that on some instances candidates from the parties supporting the coalition have been denied chances to address gatherings yet they command a huge following saying they may consider shifting their allegiance if things will not change.
