Kenyans have been urged to be understanding and show compassion to those who’ve recovered from the Covid-19 and are trying to reintegrate back to the society. This comes even as 10 more patients tested positive for the Coronavirus in the past 24 hours out of 508 tested samples, bringing the total number of cases to 384. 5 patients have recovered and have been discharged, with the total number of recoveries up to 129.
Speaking to the press on Wednesday at Afya House, Health CAS Dr. Mercy Mwangangi said of the 10 new cases, 9 are from Mombasa while 1 is in Nairobi, Kawangware. She said Kawangware has been placed under more surveillance due to increased cases and markets have been identified as areas of transmission. She said some key measures like washing hands, social distancing and wearing of masks are not being adhered to and that teams will be deployed to the hotspot, “Going forward we are going to deploy more surveillance teams.”
On the issue of mass testing, CAS Mwangangi said Kenya is still experiencing challenges in terms of running a successful test. She said despite having received testing equipment from different quarters-Jack Ma’s donations and procurements by the government-different components must be brought together to complete a successful test, citing the shortage of swabs and the affected global supply as another factor. However, she said Kenya can run upto 37,000 tests a day.
