The number of Coronavirus cases in Kenya has hit 607 after 25 more people tested positive, in 24 hours. “This means the number is growing as you can see and we must do all that we can to stop it from escalating,” said Health CAS Dr Rashid Aman, who was speaking at Afya House on Thursday. 22 of the new patients are Kenyans, 1 Ugandan, 1 Tanzanian and 1 Chinese.
Nairobi leads with new cases, 17 in number, followed by Wajir with 2, Kajiado with 2, Mombasa 1, Migori 1, Isiolo 1 and Nakuru 1. The number of Covid-19 deaths has gone up to 29, after 3 more people died, 2 in Nairobi and 1 in Mombasa. However, 7 patients have been discharged in the past 24 hours, with the number of recoveries at 197.
The Health CAS also expressed concern with movement of people out of restricted areas, Eastleigh in Nairobi and Old Town in Mombasa, after the government blocked movement into and out of the designated areas, “This move is counterproductive as it promotes the spread of the disease into areas where people are moving to,” said CAS Aman. Of the new cases reported, Eastleigh leads in Nairobi, with 9, followed by Kawangware with 2, Parklands 2, Riruta 1, South C 1, Umoja 1 and Juja road 1.
