418 people have tested positive for the Coronavirus in Kenya over the last 24 hours, as cases rise to 13,771. 2,784 samples were tested. Speaking to the press on Monday, Health CAS Rashid Alan raised concern with the way Nairobi residents are brushing aside the infection prevention directives. He said it’s worrying that carelessness is being witnessed and some are even disputing the Covid-19 numbers.
494 people have recovered as recoveries rise to 5,616, while 4 more patients have succumbed to the disease, with the latter figure needing more clarification after an initial error indicated 19 people had succumbed. The youngest latest case is 1 year old and the oldest is 86 years old. 263 are males while 155 are females.
CAS Aman noted that the rising numbers will inform model predictions to determine when Kenya will reach its peak. “Models will change with time depending on data created,” he said. He added that the existing model indicates Kenya will reach its peak in cases in late August/early September and that information is being continually fed into the model.
