5 more people have tested positive for the Coronavirus in Kenya, bringing the total number of patients to 184. Out of 308 samples, 5 tested positive, and 3 are Kenyans while 2 are foreigners. 3 of the 5 cases had traveled, one from Tanzania, another from the UK and another from the UAE. Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said 3 of the cases are in Nairobi while 2 are in Mombasa, with ages ranging between 39 and 77 years. The 5 have already been moved to isolation centres and contact tracing is ongoing.
The Health CS said Kenyans have realized the magnitude of the Covid-19 and many are observing the government’s directives including social distancing, wearing face masks and washing hands. However, he said there are some who are still flouting the directives, singling the boda boda sector. “Boda boda operators are not fully observing the directive not to carry more than one passenger. We have made it clear that if you disobey that law your boda boda will be taken until further notice,” he said. He added that some boda boda operators are helping people flout movement restrictions into and out of designated Counties of Nairobi, Mombasa, Kwale and Kilifi.
He has urged Kenyans to stay indoors during he Easter holiday this weekend. The number of fatalities in Kenya stands at 7 after one more patient died in Mombasa, while 12 patients have been discharged so far after successful recoveries. Ministry of Health DG Dr. Patrick Amoth has advised Kenyans on how to handle face masks, saying before one puts on he face mask he or she must wash their hands properly, then put it on by holding its straps and adjusting the nose bridge area to ensure it fits, covering the nose and mouth. He said it should be discarded after use, which should not be more than 12 hours.
