606 people have tested positive for the Coronavirus in 24 hours in Kenya out of a sample size of 4,888. 583 of these are Kenyans while 23 are foreigners. The total number of cases is now at 18,581. Speaking at Afya House on Tuesday, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said the increase in positive cases was expected, with the lifting of cessation of movement. He said cases have doubled in the last 21 days.
The youngest case among the latest infections is 4 months old, while the oldest is 85 years old. The cumulative tests done so far are 284,500. 409 are males while 197 are females, highlighting the continuing high rate of infection among men. 75 patients have been discharged, raising the number of recoveries to 7,998. Fatalities have risen to 299 after 14 people succumbed to the virus.
Nairobi County leads in new cases with 448, followed by Kiambu with 54 cases. Kajiado has 25 cases, Machakos has 16 cases, Uasin Gishu has 11, Nakuru has 11, Kericho has 9 cases, Busia has 7 cases. Mombasa County has 7 cases, Garissa 6 cases, Bomet 3 cases, Nyeri 2 cases, Narok 2 cases, Nandi 2 cases, Embu, Lamu and Murang’a 1 case each.
