Kenya has recorded the highest number of Coronavirus cases in a day since the first case was reported in March, with 688 people testing positive, from a sample size of 4,522. “That’s a large number. What it tells you is that the virus has spread in the community,” said Health CS Mutahi Kagwe, who was speaking to the press during the daily briefing on Saturday. The total cases have now risen to 12,750.
Nairobi leads with 537, followed by Kiambu with 59 and Machakos County with 20. Mombasa County has 18, Busia 15 cases, Kajiado 14 cases, Kilifi and Laikipia Counties 5 cases each, Meru 4 cases. Tana River, Uasin Gishu and Nakuru have 2 cases each. Bungoma, Isiolo, Makueni, Migori and Narok have 1 case each. So far, 44 Counties have confirmed cases.
The Health CS was in Embu, where he, together with other health officials had gone to inspect the County’s Covid-19 preparedness. He said cases are expected to rise due to the fact that cessation of movement was lifted. “The disease is here with us. We must invest to fight the virus and take the individual responsibility to save your child, your mother, your father, your friend, let’s save each other. You save me, I save you,” he said.
Of the new cases, 425 are males while 263 are females. The youngest is a 7 month old infant while the oldest is 95 years old. 3 more patients have succumbed to the virus, bringing total fatalities to 225, while 457 patients have recovered. 401 have recovered under the home based care programme while 56 have been discharged from various health centres.
