11 new Covid-19 cases have been confirmed by the government out of 589 tested samples in 24 hours, with the total cases now at 374. Speaking at Afya House on Tuesday, Health CAS Rashid Aman said of the new cases, 7 are from Nairobi and 4 are from Mombasa. In Nairobi, 4 are from Kawangware, 1 from Eastleigh, 1 from Manji estate and 1 from Kaloleni. The Mombasa cases are from Kibokoni.
The number of those who’ve recovered has also increased to 124, with 10 more patients discharged. However, the Health CAS noted that those aged between 30-59 carry the burden of the virus and account for 224 positive cases. He also stressed that only restaurants and eateries are set to be reopened, not bars, “Only restaurants and eateries have been granted the window to open after meeting the requirements given.”
The acting director of Public Health Dr. Francis Kuria said the restaurants and eateries will have to apply for new permits and will reopen only after inspection of premises and after operators prove all workers have undergone Coronavirus tests at government certified labs and are negative. He urged operators to download Form A from the Ministry of Health website, fill it and submit the form to the County Public Health Officer in charge of food and safety and wait for inspection.
