As a new dawn of hope somehow starts to be regained in the country, after the first shipment of the much-anticipated Covid-19 vaccine arrived last week, more cases continue to be reported day in day out by the Ministry of Health. Lately, Kenyans have become less cautious with the covid-19 measures put in place by the ministry and most of those adhering to the regulations are those scared of being arrested by law enforcers.
Yesterday March 8, the Ministry of Health reported 337 new positive cases out of a sample size of 2,924 tests, with the current total number of confirmed positive cases since the virus hit the country on 12th March 2020 standing at 109,164 and the cumulative tests so far conducted are at 1,336,614.
Among the 337 cases, 311 were Kenyans while 26 were foreigners, 198 males and 139 females. The youngest case was a one-month-old baby and the oldest being 85.
The country’s capital still leads with the highest number of infections at 267 cases, Kiambu 27, Kajiado 6, Mombasa 5, Nyeri 5, Laikipia 4, Nakuru 4, Machakos 4, Kisii 2, Vihiga 2, Uasin Gishu 2, Makueni 2, Meru 1, Murang’a 1, Siaya 1, Kilifi 1, Isiolo 1, Garissa one and lastly Kisumu 1 case.
“A total of 532 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 1,498 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care. 74 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 23 of whom are on ventilatory support and 40 on supplemental oxygen. 11 patients are on observation. Another 23 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen all of whom are in the general wards. No patient is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).” Read the ministry’s report.
