Speaking on Thursday, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said the time has come when the government has to change tact in handling Covid-19 patients. He said home based care will be the way to go, since it will help to reduce congestion in health facilities. He said Mbagathi and Kenyatta University hospital isolation facilities in Nairobi are close to being full.
He said the Ministry of Health has finished the process of actualizing home and community care protocols for rollout to be implemented countrywide, “A lot of people who are in isolation centers may be released to be taken care of at their homes.” He said it should be in accordance with the new WHO protocols and it will happen if families are able to carry out the guidelines, if not, the government will step in to provide assistance. “Time has come when we must now begin implementing our own systems in our own place depending on our own environments,” said CS Kagwe.
