The government on Wednesday announced 679 new Covid-19 cases, as the total cases surpassed the 28,000 mark. 6,590 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, with total cases now at 28,104. 658 of the cases are Kenyans while 21 are foreigners, with 400 males and 259 females.
Health CAS Dr. Mercy Mwangangi added that 743 patients have recovered, 685 from the home based care program and 58 from health facilities. Recoveries have now risen to 14,610. 18 patients have succumbed to the virus and the number of fatalities is now at 456. Among the new death cases, is a health worker who used to work at KEMRI. The CAS noted his exemplary service as the director of corporate affairs at the institute.
Once again, Nairobi is still recording a high number of Covid-19 cases, with 349 new cases, followed by neighbouring Counties Kiambu and Kajiado with 69 and 35 cases respectively. Machakos has 25 cases, Nyeri has 23, Garissa has 18, Mombasa has 16 cases, Kericho has 14 cases, Uasin Gishu and Nyandarua Counties have 13 cases each. Tharaka Nithi has 11 cases, Laikipia has 9 cases, Nakuru and Migori have 8 cases each, Kisumu has 7 cases, Meru has 5 cases.
Trans Nzoia, Tana River, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Makueni, and Isiolo have 4 cases each. Homa Bay and Embu have 3 cases each. Kitui, Narok, Kilifi, Vihiga have 2 cases each. Baringo, Samburu, Siaya, Taiga Taveta and Nyamira have 1 case each.
