The number of Coronavirus cases in Kenya has risen to 1,618 after 147 people, all Kenyans, tested positive in the last 24 hours. This is after 2,831 samples were tested. It presents a significant increase in cases, the highest daily count so far, even as testing is escalated. Speaking on Thursday during a visit to Kiambu County, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said the war against the Coronavirus isn’t a government’s responsibility only but every Kenyan has a part to play. Nairobi County leads with new cases at 90 with 35 at Kibra, followed by Mombasa with 41 with 10 at Jomvu.
Kiambu has 3 cases, Busia with 3, at entry points, Nyeri has 2, Uasin Gishu 2 at Turbo, Kajiado, Kilifi, Embu, Homa Bay, Murang’a and Machakos have one case each. 3 more people have died, 1 in Thika and another in Mombasa. 13 more have also been discharged, with the number of recoveries at 421.
Ag. Health DG Dr Patrick Amoth said so far 54 health workers have tested positive for the coronavirus. He said their work exposes them to the virus and that no health worker has died of the disease, “All healthcare workers who have tested positive and those who are in isolation and various treatment centers are doing well.”
