Coronavirus cases in Kenya have risen to 4,952 with 155 people testing positive within the last 24 hours. Health CAS Dr Mercy Mwangangi, while speaking to the press on Tuesday, said 146,537 samples have been tested so far. 3 more deaths have been recorded, as fatalities now reach 128. 102 people have been discharged from different health facilities with recoveries now at 1,782.
Of the new cases, Nairobi has the most with 104, followed by Busia County at 19-Teso South 14, Matayos 5-Migori has 10 cases, Mombasa 9, Uasin Gishu 4, Kiambu 3, Machakos 2, Kisumu 1 and Kajiado 1. The CAS further called attention to the rising cases of teenage pregnancies, saying that teenage pregnancies remain a global challenge and Kenya is not an exception.
She said a main challenge in Kenya is that teenage mothers present themselves late to the clinics when the pregnancy is advanced, and that they are encouraged to make multiple visits to the clinics. She said measures have been put in place to enhance access and availability of clinics to teen mothers, “Ensure we have youth friendly clinics available for these teenage mothers and fathers,” she said, adding that the services also have to be friendly to allow comfort for the teenagers.
