Coronavirus cases in Kenya have reached 40,178 after 271 new cases were recorded in the last 24 hours, from a sample size of 5,034. Of the new cases, 242 are Kenyans while 29 are foreigners, with 177 males and 94 females. The youngest is 1-year-old and the oldest is 83-years-old.
Speaking in Trans Nzoia County, Health CAS Rashid Aman said over the last two weeks the Health Ministry has witnessed an unusual behaviour pattern in the manner in which the virus has been spreading across the country, “Several Counties that had been recording low cases like Trans Nzoia have all began recording increasing cases,” he said.
He urged Kenyans, especially Trans Nzoia residents not to lower their guard in fighting the disease, saying they should avoid social and political gatherings, which are the fertile grounds for spreading the virus, “If we can avoid them we shall have dealt a major blow to the spread of the disease.” He said 51 people have recovered in the last 24 hours, 29 from hospitals and 22 from the home based care program, taking the recoveries to 31,710.
3 patients have succumbed to the virus, raising the fatalities to 751. Among the Counties, Nairobi has the most cases with 81, followed by Mombasa which has 58 new cases. Turkana has 16, Kisumu has 15, Garissa has 13, Kiambu has 13, Kisii has 10, Machakos has 10, Laikipia has 8, Nandi has 6, Nakuru has 6, Uasin Gishu has 5, Kilifi has 5, Murang’a has 5, Nyamira has 4, Siaya has 4, Kakamega, Kajiado, Kwale have 2 each. Migori, Embu, Homa Bay, Narok, Meru have 1 case each.
