12 more people have tested positive or the Coronavirus in Kenya, bringing the total number of patients to 122. Of the 12, 11 are Kenyans while 1 is Somali. Speaking on Friday, Health CAS Dr. Mercy Mwangangi said the number of fatalities has increased to 4, after a 6-year-old boy who had tested positive died. The victim has underlying health issues and had been admitted at the Kenyatta National Hospital. The new cases in terms of Counties are as follows, Nairobi-7, Mombasa-2, Kiambu-1, Laikipia-1, Nyeri-1. 8 of the patients are ale, while 4 are female. 1,721 contacts have been monitored so far and 1073 out of these have been discharged.
The 12 patients have already been moved to isolation centres and contact tracing has began. Meanwhile the local production of PPEs and masks has began, and Industrialization CS Betty Maina has said the Health Ministry and KEBS have approved them. Health CAS Dr.Mwangangi said they’ve set in place mechanisms to ensure all the equipment used during the Covid-19 response, whether locally made or imported, have undergone the required scrutiny and passed the test.
CS Maina said Kenya’s textile sector has the capacity to produce 60 million masks immediately and the price of one mask shouldn’t exceed Kshs 20. Kenyans have been urged to buy the masks.
