Kenya has recorded 193 new Covid-19 cases with the total cases reaching 32,557. This is after 3,381 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, with 425,364 cumulative tests conducted so far. Speaking at Afya House on Monday, Health CAS Rashid Aman said 137 are males while 56 are females, and all are Kenyan except 3.
255 people have recovered, with 188 under home based care and 37 from various health facilities. However, 6 patients have succumbed to the virus, raising the fatalities to 554. Nairobi County is still recording the highest tally of new cases, with 78 reported on Monday. Embu has 24, Garissa 21, Kiambu 18, Nyeri 13, Mombasa 10, Samburu 6, Murang’a 5, Lamu 4, Kajiado 3, Trans Nzoia 2, Kilifi 2. Machakos, Isiolo, Tharaka Nithi, Meru, Nyandarua, Uasin Gishu and Nakuru have 1 case each.
Despite the number of confirmed cases reducing steadily, the government hasn’t declared an all clear yet, and Health DG Dr. Patrick Amoth has insisted it’s still too early to say the Covid-19 infection curve has flattened. He said the infection rate in Kenya is at 6% now, just above the required 5%, “We haven’t hit the magical 5% which we need to hit and sustain for two weeks before we can say we are flattening the curve.” He said data had suggested that Kenya will hit its peak in August/September and the next three to four weeks will be crucial in determining whether the curve has been flattened.
