Patients from the Western region exhibiting symptoms similar to those of the Coronavirus can now be tested at the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) in Kisumu and their results disseminated shortly.
This is after the national government upgraded the Kisumu branch to a testing centre to cater for the residents from the Western region.
Meanwhile, Kakamega County is working on coming up with three mobile clinics that will ensure that patients at the grassroots level are accessed without necessarily travelling to the referral hospital in Kakamega town.
This has been revealed by Kakamega County Governor Wycliffe Oparanya while releasing the results of three patients who had been suspected to have the virus, but turned out negative.
Governor Oparanya has revealed that they now have enough protective gears to tackle the suspected cases after the national government dispatched about 300 of the same to the County.
He said that before, the County only had 10 pieces of the protective gears against the 5000 that are required. “With the 300, we can be sure of the quality we need to purchase and now we will dispatch the same to all the health facilities in the County without fear of sub standards,” he said.
He reminded those with bodies at the morgue to pick them up and bury them immediately as a measure towards combating the spread of the virus. According to him, 41 bodies out the 60 that were lying at the morgue have been picked up after the mortuary levy was waived by the County government. Hospital bills incurred at the hospital are, however, to be taken care of by the families.
