President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President will take 80% reduction in their salaries to avail more resources to the fight against the Coronavirus scourge in Kenya. The salaries reduction covers the whole executive, with Cabinet Secretaries taking 30% reduction, Principal Secretaries 20% and Chief Administrative Secretaries 30%.
President Kenyatta has urged other leaders to do the same, “I call on the other arms of government and tiers of government to join us in this national endeavour by making similar voluntary reductions, which will free up monies to combat this pandemic,” he noted.
As part of new government directives, all state and public officers with pre-existing medical conditions and/or aged 58 years and above in job group S and below or their equivalents have been directed to take leaves or start working from home, excluding those offering essential services, including those providing security.
