Two more patients who had tested positive for the Coronavirus have died, bringing the number of fatalities in Kenya connected to the Covid-19 to three so far. The number of cases has also increased from 81 to 110, with 29 new cases reported. Of the 29, 28 are Kenyan while 1 is Congolese and they have been placed in isolation in various health facilities. According to Health CS Mutahi Kagwe’s briefing on Thursday, a total of 662 samples were tested in 24 hours.

He has urged those in high traffic areas and passengers boarding matatus to put on face masks as a precautionary measure. Production of masks locally has already began. The CS further said that the government intends to hire 5,000 health workers across the Counties in a move aimed at scaling up the fight against the Covid-19 in Kenya. He added that the Deputy Governor of Kilifi, Gideon Saburi, who was widely faulted for flouting self quarantine orders after jetting in from Germany and putting many Kenyans at risk as a result, has recovered and legal action will be taken against him. The number of those who have recovered is currently 4.
