Kenya has recorded the highest number of Covid-19 cases in a day, after 260 people tested positive in 24 hours from a sample size of 3,651. The total number of positive cases now stands at 4,738. Of the new cases, 254 are Kenyans while 6 are foreigners. The youngest is 7 months old while the oldest is 90 years old. 21 patients have been discharged, with recoveries now at 1,607. However, 2 patients have succumbed to the virus, fatalities rising to 123.
Nairobi County has the most cases, with 157, Mombasa County has 42, Kwale 15, Kiambu 14, Machakos 9, Kajiado 7, Migori 3, Nakuru 3, Busia 3, Homa Bay 2, Kilifi 1, Kisii 1, Kisumu 1, Kakamega 1, and Laikipia 1. Briefing the country on the state of the Coronavirus pandemic on Sunday, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said close to 600 patients have been released to go home and continue their treatment under the home based care program. 338 patients have been released from the KU hospital, while Coast General hospital has released 212 patients.
The CS also pointed out that significant gains have been made in the fight against the Covid-19, 100 days after the first case was reported, notably, the testing capacity. In March, 3,419 samples were tested, in April 19,108 samples were tested, in May 57,527 samples and by June 21, 59,958 samples have been tested, “These figures demonstrate that the number of samples tested increased as we upgraded our testing capacity,” he said.
