Nandi Senator Hon Samson Cherargey has criticized the move by Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i to involve himself in politics yet is a government official urging President Uhuru Kenyatta to relieve him of his duties.
Speaking in Nandi, Cherargey faulted the CS over his involvement in the 2022 succession politics saying it is against the constitution and is posing a threat to the electoral process using state machinery.
The Senator claimed that the Cabinet Secretary and his other colleagues have chosen to be politicians and they should step aside as civil servants in order to campaign for their friends.
“Matiang’i has decided to abandon his duties as Interior CS and engage in politics exchanging war of words with the elected leaders thus should step aside immediately”, Cherargey said.
Concerning the move by political parties’ amendment Bill which is yet to be determined in parliament, the Senator argued that the bill contains proposals that will compromise the independence and democracy establishment of political outfits.
“There is no way one can micromanage political parties, thus the constitution must be respected.” He affirmed.
He also urged the Nandi residents to continue upholding Covid-19 protocols so as to be on the safer side especially at this moment when cases of Covid-19 are rising daily in the country.
