Trade and Industrialization CS Peter Munya has insisted that the meeting that brought together at least 40 leaders wasn’t a secret affair, as is being purported. The now infamous La Mada meeting is allegedly the meeting point where the plan to go on the offensive against Deputy President William Ruto’s presidential bid was discussed, bringing together Cabinet Secretaries and other government officials.
Three Cabinet Secretaries, Sicily Kariuki (Health), Peter Munya (Trade) and Joe Mucheru (ICT) were summoned to the DCI office on Monday morning after the allegations surfaced that there was a plan to kill the Deputy President, and the leaders had met at La Mada hotel to discuss it. The issue has been a hot topic ever since, with the mystery surrounding the claims increasing with each passing day.
However, CS Munya has maintained his stance that the meeting was convened to discuss issues affecting Mt Kenya region, especially after local elected leaders complained that the CSs and PSs from the region weren’t accessible. “The meeting of forty people can’t be called a secret,” he said, alluding to the fact that it was done secretly.
He hasn’t reached out to the DP though, following the accusations, and insisted that if DP Ruto wanted to know the details of the meeting he could’ve clearly told him. “When I was given that assignment I didn’t think it was necessary to tell him….but if he knew and asked me I would’ve told him.” The progress of the investigation into the claims isn’t defined, given that the Deputy President hasn’t recorded an official statement yet.
