Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa has insisted that leaders in the region allied to him and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya are focused on ensuring the Western region succeeds on the economic front. He has dispelled the view that the leaders are simply playing politics and their only intention is to ensure the different economic giants in the region like the industries are fully revived, for the benefit of residents.
He also denied that they want to take over the Western region leadership mantle. He was speaking during a Covid-19 sensitization meeting held at Kibabii University on Saturday that brought together Governors from the region, leaders, and education stakeholders, represented by the Bungoma County leaders from KUPPET, KNUT, KEPSHA, ECDE, and private schools leaders.
The CS further pointed out that the government will offer assistance to the Counties bordering Uganda so that they effectively deal with the Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking hours before attending the meeting, Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati said the focus of the meeting, apart from sensitizing the education stakeholders on the Coronavirus, was on development.
He brushed aside concerns that development projects they were championing for in the Western region when they met President Uhuru Kenyatta weren’t factored in the budget, noting that the President has the final word and the assurance they will go ahead. “Some of those things are already being done, so whoever is questioning must also just see that things are happening. We don’t want to question the President and tell him this or that is not in the budget, he is the head of state, he has the final word,” said Wangamati.
