Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa has reiterated that any Constitutional amendments should be done to help the whole country and not individuals. Speaking in Busia, he said the proposed referendum has already been politicized, with some taking sides, notably pitting Deputy President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga, “The referendum isn’t about Ruto or Raila, it’s for the benefit of all Kenyans,” said Wamalwa. He said that evolution should be made the centerpiece of any referendum changes because when development streams down to the Counties, all Kenyans benefit, “If devolution wins, we all win.”
Further he urged Busia residents and all Kenyans to be patient with the Building Bridges Initiative, and wait to make informed decisions. He acknowledged the fact that the BBI team has gone to prepare a report, and said that once the report is out, along with the proposals and particularly any proposals touching on the referendum, then Kenyans can decide what to do next.
