Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa has said the soon to be released Building Bridges Initiative report will shape the future of the country and urged Kenyans to take it seriously.
Speaking in Trans Nzoia, CS Wamalwa challenged residents to develop a keen interest in the report once it will be made public by the taskforce by ensuring they submit their views on recommendations that will be published. “The report will be subjected to public views across the country after which a constitutional amendment bill will be drafted based on recommendations by Kenyans,” he said while addressing a regional KUPPET AGM at Kitale School.
The Cabinet Secretary further called for a toning down of speculative politics centered on the contents of the report and instead called on leaders and locals in the region to wait until it is made public before they can react. “There is no need for speculation since the report will be subjected to public scrutiny before a bill is drafted unlike the case of the Punguza Mizigo Bill which did not put in mind an input from Kenyans,” he said.
He also urged residents to take a keen interest in the Maize taskforce report which will soon be made public by President Uhuru Kenyatta after recommendations by a team led by Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago. “Recommendations on how to revitalize maize farming in this region in addition to the revival of sugarcane farming will be of keen interest since it is the backbone of the economy of Western Kenya.”
The Cabinet Secretary sympathized with teachers following a move by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to put on hold promotions based on upgrading of their academic qualifications.
The speaker of the County assembly of Trans Nzoia Joshua Werunga called on TSC to ensure teachers who are in hardship areas on the border of West Pokot and Trans Nzoia County receive hardship allowances.
