The government has given a stern warning to sexual predators targeting school going girls in Pokot Central Sub County, West Pokot County. Among those targeted over school girls’ sexual harassment vices are boda boda riders, illicit brew dealers and some elders.
The County faces numerous cases involving female genital mutilation, teenage pregnancies and early marriages, vices that have drastically affected the education standards.
Speaking at Marich Primary school, Pokot Central Sub County Police Commandant Mr. Surwa warned school principals in the area against sending girls home, saying it poses a danger to them.
The Sub County Police commandant, who declared himself as the disciplinarian master in the area, cautioned parents in the area against subjecting and officiating early marriages and FGM, urging them to take their children to school. “Let us not protect these culprits, raise your voice for the time has come to castrate those found guilty of such offence and above all jail them for life. We want the best from our students.”
Surwa warned illicit brew dealers for selling the liquor near learning institutions. He further advised parents and guardians present to engage their children in an open and candid discussion on teenage pregnancy, drugs and substance abuse.
