Grief gripped Lunyito village in Lugari Sub County after a decomposed body of a 35 year old man was discovered floating on the river Nzoia.
According to Cyrus Simiyu who hails from Kibisi village, Mbakalo sub location in the neighboring Bungoma County, he had gone to harvest sand in the river at about 6am Monday morning when he discovered an object floating on water across the river on the Lugari side.
On keenly looking he said he discovered it was a human body before he rushed to wake his two colleagues Andrew Wekesa Wenani and Erick Simiyu, who were still asleep.
The three crossed the river and managed to swim to the body and tied it on a tree on the bank of the river to prevent it from being swept away.
They then contacted a family from Nzoia village in Bungoma County whose kin had been reported missing since last week. The family reached the scene and managed to identify the body.
According to Ms. Florence Nasambu Juma, her brother Dismas Nyongesa Juma left their home on Tuesday evening last week and didn’t return with efforts to search for him being in vain.
She said before he left home he looked disturbed psychologically claiming to hear drums and music playing loudly from every corner. He then left quietly without the knowledge of the family before his body was discovered in the river.
Ms. Nasambu further revealed that her brother had separated with his wife several years ago and all his three children had died affecting him emotionally.
The family appealed to be allowed to bury the body claiming it had no complaints about his death.
