Research done by the probation office in Nandi has revealed that many defilement cases are closely connected to alcoholism, according to the Nandi County probation officer Mr. Samuel Tele. Speaking to West Media, Tele revealed that some of the defilement cases are reported to the police while others aren’t reported. He said many cases are alcohol related since perpetrators cite being under the influence and do the indecent act after drinking sprees, and said sexual offences should be totally shunned, “People should abstain from these serious offences.”
He said that the cases shouldn’t be handled in an alternative dispute resolution manner but the course of justice should be followed through the justice system, from the police stations up to the courts. He affirmed that the judicial system is up to task and lauded the security team in Nandi for working tirelessly to bring the menace to a halt. He also called on the sexual defilement victims to come out strongly, adding that vital evidence shouldn’t be tampered with, including clothes.
