Deputy President William Ruto has assured over 900 families living on Kibakenge Binyenya farm in Likuyani Sub County that they will soon get their title deeds. Speaking at Mabusi trading centre when he led Jubilee campaigns in Likuyani Sub County, Deputy President Ruto promised to ensure the documents will be ready by September this year.
The DP faulted local leaders for failing to address problems affecting residents regretting that the families had no valid title deeds for their farms bought in 1963.
“It’s the first time I am hearing of this issue of Kibakenge farm in Likuyani but as the Deputy President I want to assure you that I’ll personally take up the matter and ensure the title deeds are ready in the next two months,” said Ruto.
The families led by former Matunda Moi’s Bridge ward councillor Wycliffe Makanyanga had earlier appealed for the government’s intervention to help them get the documents explaining how they have been struggling in vain to gain proper ownership of the land since 1963.
Makanyanga narrated how depressed families had pooled their resources together through their Sacco before purchasing the 200-acre piece of land from two tycoons, but were later on shocked after discovering the two had used the same land to access loans from
lending institutions, totalling to Kshs 300,000.
“After a few years of staying on the piece of land, banks began following the new owners because of unpaid loans on which the land had been attached,” said Makanyanga who added though the affected families have been struggling to repay the same, they were unable to either ascertain the accrued interests the loans had attracted or remaining balances.
“Our efforts to trace the tycoons for clarifications have always hit a snag,” added the former councillor. However, Ruto told them not to worry as the issue will be fully addressed.
Elsewhere the DP also assured Likuyani residents of Jubilee government’s plans of tarmacking several kilometres of roads in the area. He said the roads include Turbo–Soy road, Kona Mbaya–Nzoia road and the road from Kona junction through to Brigadier to Misikhu in the neighbouring Bungoma County.
He disclosed that currently there was a construction of about 300 kilometres of roads going on in Kakamega County alone.
He asked Likuyani residents to come out in large numbers on August 8 to vote for Jubilee in order to carry on with the transformation journey it has started. “We want to ensure we win these elections by 70 plus one and to achieve that, you have to come out in large numbers to vote for Jubilee party,” said Ruto adding Jubilee was the only party committed to uniting and developing the country.
