Pupils from Cheptantan Primary school at Endebess Sub County in Trans Nzoia County received digital literacy devices from the national government. During the handing over ceremony presided over by the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government Micah Powon, the PS said the national government is committed to providing tablets to all designated pupils in the country to fulfill the government’s pledges.
He said the world has become a global village due to the use of ICT in education and other several sectors which has made work easier.
Powon added that the government is committed to making sure that all the pupils in the country are not left behind and the programme is a success, and that by the end of the year most schools would have benefitted.
He expressed confidence in the quality of education and praised the way pupils are coping. “I have been in a class where a pupil has shown me how to use a gadget,” said Powon.
He, however, called upon the school administration to take great care of the gadgets so that all the pupils benefit from the Digital Literacy programme.
The headteacher Wycliffe Igonya thanked the PS for visiting his school to provide the gadgets, saying he was optimistic students will receive the necessary education that is relevant for the nation today.
He, however, said that they face challenges since the programme started, with the number of pupils’ enrolment increasing. He cited eagerness to take part in the new education programme as a reason for the increase in pupils’ enrolment.
