The Likuyani chairman for persons living with disabilities Mr. Moses Nanjukhi has bitterly condemned the recent incident where persons with disabilities in the sub county were given well packed stones instead of sewing machines they had applied for from the National Fund for Disabled Kenya.
Speaking at Kongoni, Nanjukhi said it was disappointing how the sewing machines disappeared from the area deputy County commissioner’s office where they had been stored and replaced by stones.
He said disabled persons who had applied for assistance from NFDK were called to collected assistive devices and tools of work at the DCC’S office where those who had applied for sewing machines were given well sealed cartons but on opening them they were shocked to find stones packed in the cartons.
“It’s so disheartening for someone to steal items meant to help the disabled and give them stones. These people applied for those equipment so that they can help them improve their livelihoods by engaging in income generating activities,” said Nanjukhi.
The chairman has appealed for thorough investigations into the incident to ensure those who stole the tools are compelled to buy new machines and also face the law.
