Discord in CORD, will the coalition survive?
Discord in the CORD party is rife as several members from Ford Kenya party one of the parties that form the coalition in Trans Nzoia county Kiminini sub county held a meeting to chart a way forward following the events that keep on unfolding in the party as they said their partners in ODM party have been treating them as a subservient entities in the coalition.
The Ford Kenya party members drawn from Kiminini Sub branch led by their organizing secretary Moses Wanambisi criticized the mayhem that broke during the Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula’s presidential bid launch at Masinde Muliro Garden of Kakamega.
They attacked Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya for being behind the chaos that rocked the once peaceful meeting attended by several Cord Luminaries from the region and outside and demanded that he apologizes to Kenyans and those people who were caught up in the melee.
Frakas broke up when a teargas canister lobbed at the gathering was thrown on the dais.
They said they believe Governor Oparanya was aware of every step and plans to disrupt the meeting saying he was being used by his ODM party leader Raila Odinga to frustrate the efforts that has been put in place by Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula of wanting to unite all the Luhya people.
The leaders accused ODM party leader Raila Odinga for being aware of plans by his deputy party leader Wycliffe Oparanya of disrupting Ford Kenya meeting at Muliro Gardens because the Governor had not wanted the Gardens to be used by Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula.
They said that despite his promise that he will attend the meeting on media a day before the slated meeting he didn’t honor the promise and instead decided to travel to Tanzania an action that raised eye brows amongst the Co-Principals of the Coalition.
“Instead of Raila Odinga joining his Co-Principals in a meeting that was held at Muliro Gardens Kakamega, he chose to go on a Holiday in Tanzania leaving behind his two Co-principals Moses Wetangula and Kalonzo Musyoka to attend the meeting,” said Wanambisi.
The leaders however demanded that ODM party leader personally visits the home of Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula and apologize to him together with the old men if he actually wants to be forgiven on the acts he did to Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula.
They however revisited the history where they said Raila has been never settled in seeing Ford Kenya party and its leader gain any mileage where they said he did such divisive politics to the late Michael Wamalwa Kijana where he was opposed to his ascending to be party leader as Raila protested and moved out of the party and formed his own party NDP which he used to go for presidency, the same he did to now Deputy president William Ruto.
They criticized ODM secretary generals remarks he made belittling Ford Kenya party as he said the party was free to move out of the Coalition as its not needed terming such remarks as unfortunate especially when the coalition is still grappling with its internal disputes that is threatening to tear apart the Coalition.
“We tell Ababu Namwamba to stop making some statements that might only help to tear apart the coalition saying Ford Kenya is free to move out of the coalition when it so wishes is unfortunate for now to the coalition especially as its making steps towards working as a team,” Said Wanambisi.
They appealed to the secretary General of ODM Ababu Namwamba to weigh his words before making any statement which saying its time the leaders stand to speak in one voice and avoid some statements that might split the coalition.
The leaders appealed to all Luhya leaders to come together and work as a team towards realizations of unity which they said was vital for the region.
They pointed out that the region has been used by people from outside as a fertile ground for votes as selfish interests of leaders has to blame where leaders have not been speaking in one voice and such divisions has caused the region heavily in terms of voting for their preferred candidate for the post of presidency.
