The mediation talks between the doctors and the government haven’t yielded any results yet. Mediators in the ongoing strike told the Court of Appeal that the parties conducting the negotiations have failed to agree on some key issues.
The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNHCR) and the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) had prepared a final report but asked the report be considered as an interim one after the clergies, led by SUPKEM Secretary General requested to be included in the talks to find a solution to the doctors’ strike.
The Inter-Religious Council of Kenya asked the court to give them more time. Their request was granted by the Appellate judges, granting them five days, inclusive of two working days.
Last week the Court of Appeal judges Fatuma Sichale, Kantai Sankale and Hannah Okwengu granted the mediators seven more days to come up with solutions and agreements and present a report to the court.
The council of Governors, LSK, KNHCR and the doctor’s officials had been directed by the court of appeal to engage in talks to restore normalcy that has affected the public health sector.
The case will be mentioned on Tuesday, March 7.
