A dormitory that used to house 60 students at St. Immaculate Boys School Mukuyu, was on Monday night torched down after an inferno erupted under unclear circumstances.
Cases of fire outbreak have taken toll in the recent past with several schools being burnt.
In Trans Nzoia county alone in a weeks time, St. Francis Suwerwa secondary school from Cherangany constituency was burnt on 10th July where three dormitories were razed down destroying properties worth millions of shillings, three more dormitories on 17th July 2016 were burnt at St. Teresas Bikeke Girls Secondary school at Kiminini sub county.

Calls have been made to the education cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i to tone down the policies he has introduced in the education sector which are believed to be creating ripples within the education sector.
Speaking after visiting the school following the fire outbreak, a parent who is also a stake holder in the Trans Nzoia County education sector, Peter Dao said the education policies that has been introduced by the education CS are to blame for the outbreak of unrest within schools.
He blamed the introduction of policies which he said were detrimental to the smooth running of the school hence causing a lot of tension among the school heads and all education stake holders.
The parent stated that some of the policies introduced by the CS such as formation of school boards which include students of the school, three teachers and principal, the ban of paying fees to schools by use of M-Pesa services, ban on prayer days in third term are to blame for the fire incidents.

He said such policies are being replicated by teachers through burning of schools as a way of sabotaging the cabinet secretaries’ policies which is seen as aimed at interfering with the day to day running of schools.
Mr. Emmanuel Waswa, the MCA for Keiyo ward who is also the chairman of the disasters department in the County Assembly of Trans Nzoia said that the recent unrest in schools need to be investigated thoroughly as its abnormal.
He challenged the education stake holders to hold meetings as a way of finding a solution to the problems bedeviling the education sector in the county and country as a whole.

The MCA said the introduction of policies in schools which has gone against the wishes of several principals in the country may be to be blamed and appealed for the CS to go back to the drawing board and re consider the policies put in place so that an amicable solution is reached.
Waswa also blamed some parents for absconding their duties of instilling discipline to their children which has resulted to the rot of morals within the youths who are now involved in unlawfulness activities.
The blames were extended to the neighbours at the school for some instead of helping put out the fire, they come with the intention of looting properties.
