Deputy president William Ruto has directed chiefs in West Pokot County to make sure youths who are 18 years and above get national identity cards.
He said youths should not be denied IDs because they lack some of the supporting documents.
The DP revealed that over 100,000 people in West Pokot county have not registered as voters.
“In this County, churches are sparsely placed and it’s hard for youths to acquire baptismal cards. You should not demand for such documents while they are seeking for IDs. If you know their background and parents that’s enough, you need to give them IDs,” he said.
Ruto said when he toured the County to urge residents to register as voters.
Ruto said a large population in the County had not registered as voters and asked residents to sensitize others on the importance of being registered.
“You need to register as voters so that you can be able to vote for the Jubilee government. This government has helped improve lives of Kenyans and we need to vote for it again,” he said.
Ruto also drummed up support for the Jubilee party and asked residents to vote for the party come next elections.
He said jubilee government has been able to initiate many projects in the country that have helped improve economy and lives of Kenyans.
He said the opposition has no capacity to rule this nation since it has no development plan.
“How can you entrust the nation’s leadership to people who are fond of planning demonstrations? The opposition has been known by Kenyans to be on the forefront when it comes to planning demos, that’s what they can do best,” he said.
DP Ruto said the Jubilee government has been able to set up a railway, improve health care, infrastructure among other projects that are directly benefiting Kenyans.
He said when ODM leader Raila Odinga was in the coalition party he was unable to account for government resources and asked Kenyans not to vote for him.
“When he was the prime minister in the grand coalition government what did they do. There is no mega project that they implemented. Our development record will vote them out,” he said.
About party nominations, the Deputy President assured those seeking for various seats on the party ticket the process will be free and fair.
“As party officials, we have no preferred candidate. We shall allow people to elect leaders they want,” he said. DP Ruto visited Sigor, Ortum, Makutano and Kachalibe during the tour.
