Deputy President William Ruto has once again hit out at leaders proposing a Bill that will cap church donations. Speaking in Migori County, Deputy President Ruto insisted that giving is Biblical and that those opposed to it risk facing God’s wrath. Several leaders opposed to DP Ruto have voiced their displeasure with church donations done by politicians, and have called for measures to be taken to ensure graft loot isn’t involved.
With two clear camps standing out ahead of the 2022 elections, politics has taken centre stage in the matter, and ODM MP and Minority leader John Mbadi has fronted a proposal that a public officer who contributes more than Kshs 100,000 to a public function or harambee should file a return with EACC stating the source of the funds within 14 days after contribution.
However, DP Ruto has hit back at the idea, “The leader who is known for his sayings (Raila) has urged one of his MPs to propose a Bill to block ongoing church donations,” he said, “Let them just keep on making the noise but the day they’ll try to correct the Bible and take the Bill to parliament to say people can’t give donations in church, they’ll meet God’s wrath.” His visit to Migori came after visits to Bungoma and Busia Counties, that started on Friday.
