Deputy President William Ruto has reiterated that he will continue working with churches in the country despite backlash from a section of leaders who accuse him of using churches to gain political mileage. Speaking at Nangina catholic church parish in Samia sub county, Busia county during the ordination of four priests and two deacons, DP Ruto said his close relationship with churches in the country where he helps many of them with financial donations is informed by the Bible teachings, “Bishop, when you see us here we don’t come here as leaders but as Christians. The Bible tells us that when you invest in the church you have invested in heaven and your investments are safe because nobody can steal them.”
He hit at his critics saying they need to be forgiven for not understanding Bible teachings, “There are some leaders who feel they are too important and mighty to associate with the church. They have even gone ahead to attempt to take a motion in parliament seeking to challenge the Bible teachings on giving to the church. I hope they will for given for they don’t know what they are doing. “
The DP who was accompanied by MPs Dr. Oundo Mudenyo of Funyula, Raphael Wanjala of Budalang’i, Geoffrey Omuse of Teso south, Benjamin Washiali of Mumias East and Privitation Commission chair and former Funyula MP Dr. Paul Otuoma, called on leaders to be selfless and mindful of the people who elected them, “In 2017 Kenyans elected their leaders, those who were not elected should wait for another time but those who were elected should be dedicated to serving the people. We cannot get out of an election recently and some people start funny debates of who should be given which seat, who should stand where and who should sit where. That is totally unacceptable.”
DP Ruto assured the people of Busia County of the national government’s commitment to implement various projects including tarmacking of the Matayos-Ganjala-Nangina-Sio Port-Port Victoria-Bond Ring road and establishment of Muluanda border post, “That Ring road am much aware of it and I want to assure you that next year it will be put in one of our priorities same to the proposed Muluanda border post.”
Funyula MP Dr. Oundo Mudenyo who spoke on behalf of other leaders had requested the Deputy President to help fast track the ring road and Muluanda border post projects and water scarcity in many parts of Busia county, “Your excellence although Busia county has the largest fresh water lake in Africa, water scarcity is still a big problem in our county and we request that the national government comes in and help the county government solve the problem which is really affecting our people.”
