Deputy President William Ruto has urged Kenyans to maintain peace and respect the rights of others. Addressing the press after casting his vote in the repeat poll in Sugoi in Turbo, The Deputy President said every Kenyan must be entitled to his or her right, “What I ask of every Kenyan is whether we are voting or not let’s respect the right of others. If you are voting you should respect the rights of those who aren’t voting and if you aren’t voting then respect the right of those who aren’t voting,” he said.
However, he regretted that in some parts of the country, voting has been hampered amidst protests against the repeat presidential election, “In some areas, it’s sad that some may not have the freedom to choose or elect leaders because of the will of others who don’t wish their supporters to vote,” he said, “It demonstrates that everybody can choose what they want and that is the essence of democracy, you can choose to participate or not to participate.”
DP Ruto further justified the repeat poll, saying hey simply followed the orders given by the Supreme Court and they showed the required respect to the country’s institutions. “Because of the respect to our constitution we submitted to the decision to repeat elections that’s why we are here, and it helped to demonstrate that Kenya is becoming a modern democratic state,” said DP Ruto.
