Deputy President William Ruto has said the BBI report or a possible referendum shouldn’t be forced on Kenyans and that a decent conversation that is inclusive and people centred should be prioritized. The Deputy President was speaking in Matungu, Kakamega County, where he had attended a Sunday service at the Lady of Assumption Indangalasia Parish.
He called out ODM leader Rails Odinga for his stand on the report, “Stop saying nobody can stop reggae whether we like it or not, it’s a dictatorial talk,” he said, as he addressed residents, “We want progressive talk, that allows every Kenyan and their views to be respected.”
He said inclusivity that should be prioritized should focus on Kenyans who are living below the poverty line and not leaders, “Unless we discuss inclusivity on the basis of the people who are locked out of the economic cycle due to poverty and unemployment, that inclusivity will not be complete,” he stated. He further pointed out that the right to assemble and worship shouldn’t be curtailed by any authority.
Several leaders had accompanied the DP, MPs including Kimilili’s Didmus Barasa, Malava’s Maluku Injendi, Hamisi’s Charles Gimose, Mumias East’s Ben Washiali, former Senators Boni Khalwale and Johnson Muthama among other leaders. The BBI report is set to be officially launched on Monday at the Bomas of Kenya.
