Deputy President William Ruto has said the war on graft shouldn’t be politicized and independent institutions shouldn’t work in a partisan way. DP Ruto has also insisted that the war on graft isn’t a war against government employees. “We shouldn’t politicize independent institutions of government, or independent institutions of investigations and prosecutions,” he said, “Those institutions must operate independently without instructions from anybody, without serving any ethnic or regional or any partisan interests.”
The war against corruption has become a main target of the Jubilee government, with high profile arrests made in recent months, culminating to the arrest of top Kenya Pipeline Company managers on Friday, including the Managing Director Joe Sang. The Deputy President insisted that government employees should now work with integrity and devoid of fear, saying they aren’t being solely targeted, “The war against corruption isn’t a fight against government employees,” he said. Earlier, speaking in Eldoret during the annual Jua Kali exhibition, the DP had encouraged residents to embrace agri-business, citing that diversification serves that purpose. “On diversification, let’s plant maize for food, but plant avocados for business, macadamia for business, tea and coffee for business, we’ll sell them and get money,” he said, “Anyone who tells you to just focus on what you’ll eat is cheating you.”
