Attorney General Paul Kihara has revealed that Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji has already received the report on the KEMSA scandal, where more than Kshs 7 billion was lost in a fraudulent tendering process. The scandal, happening at the height of the Covid-19 scandal, has seen Health CS Mutahi Kagwe and other health officials grilled.
Kihara said good progress is being made on the case and 52 persons of interest have been called in to write statements, and the documentation on payment has been analyzed. “The DPP has received that report and will in time decide on prosecution,” he said.
On top of EACC looking at the public officers who took part in the scam, more than 78 suppliers have been reached out to. The AG said people will be prosecuted at KEMSA, and the structure at the agency is being looked at. He stated that people are more important in the war against corruption than institutions, “Institutions are as good as the people who lead them.”
