In a significant leadership transition at Afya House, Nakhumicha S. Wafula, the outgoing Cabinet Secretary for Health, formally passed the baton to her successor, Dr. Deborah M. Barasa, in an official handover ceremony.
Dr. Barasa, who brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to the role, commended Ms. Wafula for her outstanding leadership and the transformative milestones achieved during her tenure. She vowed to continue driving the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda, emphasizing the importance of bolstering primary healthcare, expanding healthcare networks, and enhancing Community Health Programs (CHPs) as key pillars for achieving UHC for all Kenyans.
The event, which took place on August 29th, 2024, was attended by senior officials, including the Principal Secretaries for Public Health and Professional Standards, Ms. Mary Muthoni, and Medical Services, Harry Kimtai, who both expressed their deep appreciation for Wafula’s contributions and pledged their full support to the new CS in realizing the UHC vision.
Director General of Health, Dr. Patrick Amoth, along with other key ministry officials, were present to witness the historic handover, marking the beginning of a new chapter in Kenya’s healthcare leadership.
