The ministry of health has appointed Dr. Mercy Mwangagi as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Social health Authority SHA.
Dr. Mwangangi is a health financing and policy expert with over 15 years of experience in universal health coverage [UHC], institutional reforms, and health system strengthening, a proven leader in health governance, resource mobilization and strategic partnerships, with an exceptional track record of driving policy transformation and financing reforms in Kenyans healthcare landscape. with such high level experience, she is poised to lead SHA into the next chapter.
Until her appointment, she has been serving as Senior Health Systems Strengthening Director at AMREF Health Africa where she has been spearheading health financing and health security investments across Africa. She has also been in charge of securing development assistance funding for primary healthcare and universal coverage expansion.
Following her appointment, Mwangangi became the first CEO of SHA. The Ministry of Health under the leadership of Aden Duale who is also the appointing authority congratulated Mwangangi and wished her well in her new position adding that the Ministry was confident that she has what it takes to steer SHA and deliver on the mandate of SHA.
The appointment of Dr. Mwangangi comes after the completion of the competitive process which saw a total of 92 applicants out of which 12 candidates were shortlisted and interviewed.
