There was drama in Bungoma town Tuesday afternoon after a man emerged in the streets with a snake tied around his neck as he walked with a huge crowd in town.
The man Anthony Nyongesa who came from Khalaba village in Kanduyi constituency said that he had visited his neighbor John Wanjala when he saw children looking at something only to realize that it was a snake that could have injured the children and therefore immediately intervened.
“I was at my neighbors home when children started running away from something that made me move quickly where they were only to find out that it was a snake that could have injured the children and that is when I called out for help to kill it,” said Nyongesa at the gate of Bungoma police station and the county commissioner’s offices.
He said that after killing the snake they decided to carry it to the county commissioner’s office in Bungoma town whereby they were to destroy it in the presence of government officials in what they termed protection in case the owner of the snake surfaces and accuses them for killing his or her pet.
“We decided to carry this snake here so that we get fuel to burn it from the deputy county commissioner’s office so that in case someone comes to claim it we shall have reported the matter to government officials’” said Nyongesa.
The move that attracted a huge crowd witnessed Nyongesa and his team play around with the dead snake like nothing by tying it around the neck, waist and anything that they thought of hence scaring many people especially women who watched unbelievably as the man played with one of the most dangerous reptiles.
However the crowd did not access the county commissioner’s office and remained on the road at the gate where they were addressed by one of the senior police officers from Kitale police station who advised them to go and destroy the snake from anywhere else they deemed appropriate but stop causing a jam and commotion at the government offices.
The incident happened barely five days after another man Saleh Wanjala a.k.a Sambaka hit headlines in the news rooms and on the social media across the globe after he hang on an helicopter and flew on it for a few kilometers without falling off until it landed with him at the Bungoma airstrip.
The chopper was carrying the body of slain businessman Jacob Juma whose body was to be viewed briefly at Bungoma Posta grounds before being flown to his Mungore home in Bumula constituency.
Wanjala is now recuperating at the Bungoma referral hospital nursing various injuries on his back and hip joint on one of the legs.
