Nine ECDE schools in Bunyala West Ward in Budalangi constituency, Busia County now have something to smile about after receiving the necessary documents that give them authority to lawfully posses’ dams for rearing fish at Lake Victoria popularly known as fish cage farming.
This is according to area member of the county assembly, Bathlomew Taabu Were. Speaking in a meeting also attended by County director of fisheries Mr. Timothy Odende, Bunyala Sub County administrator Mr. Nelson Otando and Chairman, BMU Busia network Mr. Sylvester Kaywa among other guests, teachers in charge of the ECDE classes and responsible school committees said they will use all the profits got from each fish cage to procure the necessary school items that will be used by the pupils.
“This will only happen after the officials from the fisheries department harvest the fish after every nine months.’’ They said. The area MCA has hinted that each fish cage already has 10,000 fish adding that they expect to sell them at around 150,000 and 200,000 thousand shillings.
