The Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha has banned use of phones in examination Centers citing it as the enemy of examinations.
Speaking during his visit in Kapsabet Boys High School in Nandi, Magoha cited that only two phones will be allowed in the examination center, that is one for the center manager and the other one for the security manager which will be used for communication in case of any emergencies.
Magoha who made a visit to some schools in Nandi for a fact finding mission on the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations, after allegations of leaked papers, said the Ministry of Education has put in stringent measures to curb exam irregularities one being the scrap of use of phones in examination centers by the exam managers.
The CS also effected changes in exam containers opening time to be not earlier than 6am and the exams to commence at 8.30am as a way of denying the crooks another addition of half an hour.
“We have consolidated our classrooms and we are dealing with fewer examination centers thus therefore as a Ministry of Education, we are able to cover all the schools and all the examination centers with the police.” He affirmed.
He added that as a Ministry, they have taken bold steps in effecting changes which are a little bit painful but necessary because of the 831,000 children of which each of them must be given equal opportunities.
