The KCPE exam will commence on Tuesday morning and the government ha set up al the necessary measures to ensure the exam isn’t hindered in anyway. Speaking to the press at Nairobi primary school during rehearsals, Education PS Belio Kipsang affirmed that there haven’t been any exam leakages as some may think. “We want to give you one assurance that every (one) of our candidates will see that paper for the first time on the examination morning,” he said.
He lauded the level of preparation for the exams this year, saying that there has been less anxiety among the candidates, “There is a correlation between level of preparedness and anxiety and this year we saw that the level of anxiety was quite low, an indication that our children were adequately prepared by our teachers.” He wished the candidates well, saying they shouldn’t be put under pressure.
The acting Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) Dr. Mercy Karogo said there will be a total transition to secondary schools and everyone will be accommodated. She said irrespective of circumstances, all candidates will sit for their exams, factoring challenges like heavy rains and floods. She further rubbished any concerns of exam exposure, saying the exam papers will be seen when they are officially opened and presented to the candidates.
The government will ensure that candidate sin areas affected by unfavorable weather patterns and other factors do their exams, coupled with boosting security in all centres. Interior CS Fred Matiang’i had already indicated that security teams will be vigilant during he KCPE and KCSE periods. Rehearsals were held on Monday in schools countrywide, with 1,088,987 candidates expected to sit for this year’s KCPE exams which will end on Thursday.
