Malanga Primary and Secondary Schools in Nambale Sub-County Busia County are in dire need of financial help to repair their classrooms and laboratories whose roofs were blown off by strong winds last weekend.
At Malanga Secondary, a classroom and the Biology laboratory were destroyed by the winds which lasted for fifteen minutes leaving behind devastating effects.
The school principal Mr. Reuben Barasa said they have been left in a limbo as the two rooms were to be used by some of the candidates sitting for this year’s KCSE.
“The rain and storm came shortly after we had done our rehearsal for the exams and we were to use the two rooms among others for the exams. We are caught in a tough situation as to where we shall relocate the exam.”
He says they may be forced to send home lower forms so as to create space for the sixty three candidates.
According to Mr. Barasa, the loss they incurred amounts to seven hundred thousand as most of the laboratory equipment like burettes for practical exams, computers and books were destroyed.
At the neighboring Malanga Primary, the situation is no different as three classrooms were blown off displacing one hundred and fifteen pupils of standard five and seven.
Some of them, one hundred and fourteen, have been squeezed in the newly County Government built ECD classroom as the ECD pupils have been taken to another old classroom and others placed under a tree.
The school head teacher Mr. John Henry Maloba told west fm that a few of his pupils were slightly injured as they scrambled out of their classes during the incident.
He says they require at least half a million shillings to renovate the classrooms.
The two schools are now appealing to Nambale CDF, County Government and well wishers to come to their rescue and restore normal learning in the two institutions
