At least 20 students from the Kenya Medical Training College Eldoret campus sustained serious injuries after the college bus they were travelling in was involved in a road accident at Msalaba yellow area along Eldoret–Kitale road in Likuyani sub county.
Confirming the incident, Soy sub location assistant chief Cornelius Luseno
Lusava said the accident occurred after the bus driver applied emergency
brakes to avoid colliding head-on with a Nissan Matatu that was carelessly
overtaking another vehicle from the opposite side.
Luseno said the driver of the bus lost control in the process and the bus started swerving along the road before it fell over. “There were two Nissan matatus that were approaching from the opposite side and one of them tried to carelessly overtake another, forcing the bus driver to apply
emergency brakes to avoid colliding with the matatu before he lost
control,” said Luseno.
According to the local administrator, the bus which had 42 occupants on
board was on it’s way from Kitale where the students had gone for academic tour and they were travelling back to Eldoret when the accident occurred. He said about 25 students sustained serious injuries and were rescued and rushed to different hospitals.
