With less than 150 days to this year’s general election, mergers, defections and alliances are being witnessed everyday.
Elected leaders in office are seen busy making ways on how to get re-elected in parliament or in the County Assembly.
The Friends Quakers Church leadership while speaking at Handidi Monthly meeting in Shinyalu constituency, after a consultative meeting with national leaders, are asking the leaders to tone down the early started campaigns and remember their role in representing the voters.
Led by the national presiding clerk of the Quakers, Mr. Henry Mukwanja, the church says politicians have represented common man by passing bills and ensuring infrastructure and other needs are taken care of.
However, these leaders have abandoned those that employed them by not addressing the rising cost of living that is a big burden to many.

“Normally, campaigns are supposed to start after dissolution of parliament but they are already on. These leaders are busy concentrating on alliances and parties that will ensure their re-election or ensure they are elected instead of fighting for the common man.” said Mukwanja.
The church also wants the Independent and Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to give Kenyans a credible election free of interference or intimidation from any political party or aspirant.
The youths have also been cautioned not to accept to be used by politicians who have their selfish interests to cause chaos during campaigns, before and after elections.
The church is expected to hold national prayers ahead of the general elections on 15th April this year during their national conference, and also wants the clergy to play its role in preaching peace.
